Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 hit the theatres after a long wait and grossed Rs 100 crore on its opening day yesterday. Given the popularity of the previous film, the film was expected to be a blockbuster but instead, it has taken a decent opening at the Indian box office. The numbers look good to look at individually as the 25 crore mark was comfortably crossed. Keep reading to know more!
Directed by Shankar, the Indian sequel received mostly negative reviews from critics, and the opinion of the ticket-buying audience was also not positive. The impact was clearly visible as the film failed to show much of a jump in viewership in the evening and night shows. Thanks to the franchise value, this big film got a respectable opening for itself across the board.
As per early trends, Indian 2 has grossed an estimated Rs 1.5 crore. 27 Crores The film grossed over 16 crores nett on its first day (all languages combined) at the Indian box office. More than 16 crores of this came from the Tamil version. The Hindi version had a disappointing start and grossed just over 1 crore. The biggest surprise was the Telugu version, which grossed over 7 crores.
For those who don’t know, Vikram had grossed over 30 crores on its opening day. Indian 2 failed to cross that number, but in terms of Telugu collections, this latest release is leading by a huge margin. Vikram’s Telugu version had opened at around 3 crores compared to the Indian sequel’s 7 crores+.
Since the response from the audience is not good, the sales of Indian 2 are expected to fall today, and it will not be able to take full advantage of the weekend.
