Khel Khel Mein had a low opening in cinemas. The film was never meant to be a box office smash as it was a core multiplex film for the elite urban audience, which meant its business was restricted to major cities. However, given the kind of budget it was made on, it was also going to do pretty well, provided it could take full advantage of the mini-holiday season that runs from Independence Day to Rakshabandhan.
However, all this was possible even if the competition was weak or, even better, non-existent. While Veda stood as competition against it, it would still have been manageable as its audience is in the larger centres, and it was targeting the class audience. However, no one was prepared for the impact Stree 2 had on D Day, at least until a fortnight before its release. On its second day, the Akshay Kumar starrer earned only Rs. 2.42 croresThe total collection of Khel Khel Mein is very less 7.65 crores.
Unfortunately, this happened because Stree 2 got most of the best screens and prime-time shows. Since the full advance booking for Khel Khel Mein also started late, the attention of the audience was already diverted. It is no surprise that despite being well-made, the Akshay Kumar-led film opened with a mere Rs 1.5 crore. 5.50 crores, And this is less than expected. All eyes are now on how the film picks up the pace in the coming weekend and then on Monday and registers respectable lifetime numbers.
Well, we wonder if the coming days will do anything better for Akshay Kumar’s film. Khel Khel Mein also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Amy Virk and Aditya Seal in lead roles. Mudassar Aziz has directed this family entertainer.
