Shannon Doherty: Early Life and Career
Shannen Maria Doherty was born on April 12, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee. Her family moved to Los Angeles so she could pursue an acting career at an early age. A role in the series ‘Father Murphy’ brought her to the attention of Michael Landon and she was cast on ‘Little House on the Prairie’ at the age of 11.
She Fondly remembers her time on the show On the Let’s Be Clear podcast:
“It was really the experience on ‘Little House’ that fueled my passion for being an actor, and having a mentor like Michael Landon. And I don’t care what anyone else’s experience was. I know the truth about that man, and he was just incredible. So, so, so talented, so kind, so thoughtful he really helped shape me.”
After ‘Little House’, she had a recurring role with Wilford Brimley on ‘Our House’ and various other roles, although the two lead performances are different.

Shannen Doherty: Big TV break
If there’s one role that Doherty will truly be remembered for, it’s that of fresh-faced brunette Brenda Walsh on Fox’s ‘Beverly Hills, 90210.’ Along with his twin brother Brandon, played by Jason Priestley, the Walshes were a classic fish-out-of-water family that moved from Minnesota to Beverly Hills and tried to fit in with the LA rich kids.
The show became a huge hit, which was resolved due to some controversy over the themes, although Doherty developed a reputation for being difficult on set and clashing with her co-stars. She left the show in 1994, though returned for a few episodes of the reboot ‘90210’ and Meta Tech ‘BH90210’.
“New Faces and Dangerous Places!”
Her other big part was on ‘Charmed’ as the witch Prue Halliwell, the eldest of three magical sisters who work together to fight evil. She directed several episodes and then left the show at the end of the third season, amid further reports of tension with her co-stars.
Her TV work includes ‘North Shore’, ‘Riverdale’ and also shows she created, including ‘Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty’, where she helped people get out of bad relationships.
